Final thoughts from Mr. York

Image
When I first started planning this trip about a year and a half ago, the general comments were "are you crazy?" and "why would you voluntarily put yourself through that?". I was very fortunate to go through my own band career under directors that believed in travel. Mr. Bertles (my middle school director) LOVED rolled coasters, so we'd hit all of the major theme parks. Mr. Hooten (my high school director) planned the high school with every other year being a major competition or a band trip. Because of these two gentlemen, and a few "road trips" with band friends throughout the years, I have seen a vast amount of our great country! Because of band trips, I have seen the grand canyon, I have taken part in a presidential inauguration, I have seen a musical on Broadway, I have performed in Carnegie Hall, and I have memories that will last forever. Because of those band trips, I am the person I am today. Being a part of the band is about SO much more than

Opportunity of a lifetime. - Brandon, 9th It was an exhilarating experience- Arthur,12th The trip was amazing. The most fun I've done in my high school career. - Austin Davis 12th I would do it again if I could in a heartbeat. -Dillon C, 12th  I don't have a favorite part because I enjoyed the entire trip and everything we did, including the Windy City and it has to offer. - Savannah T, 12th This was definitely a once and a lifetime opportunity and I enjoyed every little thing we did!! I would have to say this was a great last spring break while in high school. -Emily Boyd 12th  This may have been my last big trip with the band, but I will gladly say that this was the best. I will always remember the fun we had and the accomplishments we made. -Johnathan Brandon 12th I swear I was made for the city! I had so mu

Day 2

So it all started with a early morning rise to a good breakfast of pancakes and cereal at the hotel we are staying at. Later on we go to the Sears/Willis tower to go to sky deck which is literally 103 floors above the ground. In hind-site, it was only 1,353 feet, and that's not a whole lot until you go to the sky box where you can step out into a glass box that looked like it was ready to crack as soon as you stepped out onto it. Many people panicked when they stepped out on it but only two kids in our group decided they wouldn't do it.  We go back down a little after we all have had the opportunity to step out. We soon after went to millennium park, it is the prettiest park even though the skating rink was shut down. Our lunch was waiting for us there in the park and the food was pretty good if I do say so myself, and that says a lot since I am a picky eater. After our groups finished we would to the bean that everyone comes out for. Everything that someone can tell

Blue Man Group

That was one of the single best performances of anything I have ever seen. The energy was just pumping through the performers and through the crowd. Whether the group was spraying banana pudding at the crowd or we were raising our hands in the air and screaming at the ceiling, it was just pure energy and enjoyment. Every minute was amazing and I'd do it again if I had the chance. I give Blue Man Group 6.5 stars out of 7.

Chicago Trip - Lincoln Park Zoo

Image
Lions and tigers and bears! Oh my! Well not tigers, but there were plenty of other animals to observe while we visited the Lincoln Park Zoo. Upon entering the zoo we first came across a plethora of all sorts of primates both big and small. As you continue your adventure you may find yourself in the safaris of Africa or in a rainforest full of all sorts of birds. Our time in the zoo was filled with laughs and smiles, and of course the "Look how cute!" From the mighty lions and bears to the beautiful snakes and frogs and of course the colorful birds, the Lincoln Park Zoo was a fun, knowledge fulfilling experience. - Johnathan B. - 12th Grade

Day 3

Science museums are typically one of two things:  dry or amazing.  I assure you, this one was the latter.  On more than one occasion, I was amused and surprised by the quality and quantity of the exhibits.  For example, the renditions of tornadoes in the weather section, the loud exclamations of Tesla's prime invocations, and the amazing ingenuity of soldiers in the greatest war of all time.  There is not just enjoyable history and fantastic renditions of science, there is an underlying theme of the ingenious nature of people and the amazing feats of the universe.  The Museum of Science and Industry was a tremendous experience, even in the limited time span we had;  in this museum, hours are as minutes, and 3 was not nearly enough. - Zack Bailey, 11th grade     There just wasn't enough hours in the day to do either one of the things planned, icluding the mall. This was no ordinary mall, let me tell you. Seven stories of absolute wonder. Many were looking forwar
